Thank you and formal introductions!

To the amazing souls who are sending in your writing - thank you for trusting me with your work. Your voices are beautiful, your stories are compelling, and I am so excited to launch our first issue. That said, allow me to officially introduce myself.

I’m Amy, chief volunteer of everything here at Cleaning up Glitter, Inc. a literary organization and journal (501c3 nonprofit status pending!). I’ve been writing as long as I’ve known how and enjoy telling stories. I also love reading other peoples stories and about their life experiences. It’s been a dream to someday publish a literary journal and with some areas of my life falling into place, now was a good time! :) I am a life-long nonprofit junkie, currently employed full time at a museum, and am excited to grow this endeavor to fulfill its mission of empowering new and emerging writers. Again, thank you for your belief in us!

While my writing has evolved over the years, I often write about the most raw parts of life - this can be a different thing each day. Writing has been a significant factor in my ability to manage mental illness and deal with complex and/or complicated situations. When a reader gives me feedback that my writing has struck a nerve with them, I take it as a compliment (most of the time!). My desire to create this community stems from this. Life is uncomfortable, messy, sad, happy and confusing. Let’s write about it!

I am a mother to H, and partner/spouse to Kevin, my co-captain on this venture (he has plans to launch a podcast… stay tuned!). We have two dogs, a cat, and a painted rock garden in our front yard. I turned my formal living room into a MakerSpace where I sew and crochet, and my daughter programs robots, makes slime, and uses copious amounts of glitter. By day I am a fundraiser/grant writer/event lady/all things development and have been drafting Cleaning up Glitter’s strategic plan in my mind for years.

Our first issue will be coming out in early - mid May! I am finalizing the layout of our e-journal, and will be testing it in the next week or so. We will continue reviewing submissions until April 30th for our first edition.

As always, thank you! And please don’t forget to stay even more up to date with us on social media.

Happy writing!

Amy (she/her)
